Regular Verbs Conjugation Method
There is a three-step method that will make conjugating regular Spanish verbs very easy for you.
In order to conjugate regular verbs in the imperfect subjunctive one must:
- Take the ellos form in the preterite
- Cut off the -ron ending
- Add the new ending (ra, ras, ra, ramos, rais, ran) or (se, ses, se, semos, seis, sen)
There are actually two ways to conjugate a verb in the imperfect subjunctive.
Therefore there are also two conjugation tables.
In general, the first one is used more often.
We are going to conjugate the verb comer (to eat) in the yo form as an example.
- comieron
The ellos form of comer in the preterite is comieron.
- comie
When we cut off the –ron ending we get comie.
- comiera
When we add the new –ra ending we get comiera.
So when you wish to say “I ate” in the subjunctive in Spanish you’d get:
Yo comiera
