How to form the Futur Simple

Please note that the new endings (ai, as, a, ons, ez, ont) are almost the same as avoir conjugated in the present tense.

The 2 Step Method To Forming the Futur Simple

In order to form the futur simple one must:

1. Find the infinitive (full verb)
2. Add the new ending (ai, as, a, ons, ez, ont)

The verb parler means to “to speak” in English.

We will take this verb and conjugate it in the “je” form using the two step method.

1. parler

The full verb of “to speak” is parler in French

2. parlerai

When we add the new ending ai, the final conjugated form will be parlerai.

So when you wish to say “I will speak” in French you get:

Je parlerai

This method works for most verbs (-er and -ir verbs), however there are some exceptions.

Verbs that end with -re conjugate a bit differently, and so do the irregular verbs.

However, you will meet them as you progress.

So, take this lesson as a rule of thumb, but not as an absolute rule.
