Simple Tenses
In sentences with a conjugated verb, object pronouns are placed between the subject and the conjugated verb.
- subject – object pronoun – conjugated verb
J’aime mon père. Je l’aime.
I love my father. I love him.
Tu regardes le match. Tu le regardes.
You are watching the game. You are watching it.
Stella déteste la musique. Stella la déteste.
Stella hates music. Stella hates it.
Nous parlons à votre mari. Nous lui parlons.
We are talking to your husband. We are talking to him.
Ils nettoient la voiture. Ils la nettoient.
They are cleaning the room. They are cleaning it.
Infinitives
In sentences with infinitives, object pronouns are placed before the infinitive.
Je veux le faire.
I want to do it.
Tu peux le prendre.
You can take it.
Elle va lui parler.
She is going to talk to him.
Nous allons leur acheter de la nourriture.
We’re buying food for them.
Vous voulez l’acheter ?
Do you want to buy it?
Ils vont leur demander où se trouve l’hôtel.
They are going to ask them where the hotel is.
Please don’t forget that le/la becomes l’, if the pronoun is followed by a vowel or mute h.
