Llevar = To Take
You will use llevar to take someone or something from your location to another location.
So, someone or something goes from here to there.
Here are some examples:
Lleva el coche al taller antes de que tengas un accidente.
Take the car to the workshop before you have an accident.
Para el viaje, tienen que llevar ropa de abrigo.
For the trip, they need to take warm clothes with them.
Lleva esta carta al buzón, por favor.
Please take this letter to the mailbox.
Necesito que lleves a Ana al colegio, por favor.
I need you to take Ana to school, please.
Please note that you will use the preposition “a” after llevar whenever you are taking about people.
Traer = To Bring
You will use traer to bring someone or something from another location to your location.
So, someone or something goes from there to here.
Here are some examples:
He traído bebidas para la cena.
I have brought drinks for dinner.
¿Puedes traerme el aceite de la cocina?
Can you bring me the oil from the kitchen? (you=tú)
Mientras estamos fuera no quiero que traigas a nadie a casa.
While we are away I don’t want you to bring anyone home.
Please note that you will use the preposition “a” after traer whenever you are taking about people.
