You may want to make an if statement in Spanish.
This means that something will happen in the future, only if a condition with a high probability of being met happens.
In such cases you will use structures with the conjunction si (if):
- [si + present tense] + present tense
- [si + present tense] + future tense
Si estudio mucho, apruebo el examen.
If I study hard, I pass the exam.
Si estudio mucho, aprobaré el examen.
If I study hard, I will pass the exam.
Si congelas el agua, se convierte en hielo.
If you freeze water, it turns into ice
Si congelas el agua, se convertirá en hielo.
If you freeze water, it will turn to ice.
It does not matter if you use the present tense or the future tense, the meaning of the sentence remains the same.
You can also swap the structure and it will still mean the same
- present tense + [si + present tense]
- future tense + [si + present tense]
Obtienes un descuento considerable, si compras el nuevo iPhone con esta tarjeta de crédito.
You get a considerable discount, if you buy the new iPhone with this credit card.
