Por Que [Two Words and No Accent]
Por que consists of two words and has no accent.
You form it by using the preposition “por” and the conjunction “que“.
Generally, it means “for which”, but it is also often used as “why” or “that”.
Here are some examples:
Hicimos todo lo que pudimos por que no los desahuciaran.
We did everything we could to prevent them from being evicted.
Hablaré con mi jefe por que te quedes a trabajar con nosotros.
I will talk to my boss for you to stay and work with us.
At times, por que consists of the preposition por and the relative pronoun que.
When used like this, you will tend to see it with an article, however it can also be omitted.
La razón por (la) que quería hablar contigo es que necesito que me prestes dinero.
The reason I wanted to talk to you is that I need to borrow money.
Las situaciones por (las) que he tenido que pasar durante mi vida, no se las recomiendo a nadie.
The situations I have had to go through in my life, I would not recommend them to anyone.
Porqué [One Word and With an Accent]
Porqué is one word with an accent.
It is a masculine noun that means “reason”.
Here are some examples:
Quizá nunca sepamos el porqué de su enfado.
We may never know why he was so angry.
Algún día sabremos los porqués de su extraña actitud.
One day we will know the reasons for his strange attitude.
As you can see, articles (un/unos/el/los) and other determiners must agree.
The plural version of porqué is porqués.
