Regular -ir Verbs Conjugation Method

This section will show you how regular -ir verbs are conjugated in the futur antérieur.

There is a two step method that will make everything very easy for you.

In order to conjugate verbs that end with -ir in the futur antérieur one must:

  1. Conjugate avoir in the futur simple
  2. Add the particip passé of the -ir verb

The verb choisir means “to choose” in English.

We will take this verb and conjugate it in the “je” form using the two step method.

  1. aurai

Avoir in the futur antérieur is aurai.

  1. choisi

The particip passé of choisir is choisi.

So when you wish to say “I will have spoken” in French you get:

J’aurai choisi

Common Regular ir Verbs

French has three regular verb groups.

  • regular -er verbs
  • regular -ir verbs
  • regular -re verbs

The regular -ir verbs group is the second biggest group. Many French verbs fall in this group.

Here is a list of common verbs that you are sure to encounter in day-to-day life:

There are 3 important rules to take into account, when you want to pronounce regular ir verbs futur antérieur conjugations.

  1. The je, and vous form both have the same pronunciation.

J’aurai choisi.

Vous aurez choisi.

  1. The tu, and il/elle/on form both have the same pronunciation.

Tu auras choisi.

Il aura choisi.

  1. The nous, and ils/elles form both have the same pronunciation.

Nous aurons choisi.

Ils auront choisi.
