Please note that all of these –ar verbs change to the vowel –e, whereas –ir and –er verbs change to the vowel –a.

Regular Ar Verbs Conjugation Method

There is a three-step method that will make conjugating regular Spanish ar verbs very easy for you.

In order to conjugate verbs that end with -ar in the subjunctive one must:

1. Take the yo form of the verb in the present tense
2. Cut off the -o ending
3. Add the a new ending (-e, -es. -e. -emos, -éis, -en)

We will take the verb hablar (to speak) and conjugate it in the “yo” form using the three-step method.

1. hablo

The yo form of hablar is hablo.

2. habl

Cut off the -o ending.

3. hable

Add the new ending –e, you get hable.

So when you wish to say “I speak” in Spanish in the subjunctive you get:

Yo hable

Common Regular Ar Verbs

Spanish has three regular verb groups

• regular -ar verbs
• regular -er verbs
• regular -ir verbs

The regular ar verbs group is the biggest and most useful group. Most Spanish verbs fall in this group.
