Regular ir Verbs Conjugation Method

This section will show you how regular -ir verbs are conjugated in the conditionnel présent.

There is a two step method that will make everything very easy for you.

In order to conjugate verbs that end with -ir in the conditionnel présent one must:

  1. Find the stem of the verb in the futur simple. For -ir verbs this is the same as the infinitive (full verb).
  2. Add the new ending (ais, ais, ait, ions, iez, aient).

In the conjugation table above you can see the verb choisir which means to “to choose” in English.

We will take this verb and conjugate it in the “je” form using the two step method.

  1. choisir

The full verb of “to choose” is choisir in French

  1. choisirais

When we add the new ending ais, the final conjugated form will be choisirais.

So when you wish to say “I would choose” in French you get:

Je choisirais

Please note that the new endings (ais, ais, ait, ions, iez, aient) are the imparfait endings.
