In this section on être conjugation in the imparfait we will focus on pronunciation.

There is 1 important rule to take into account when we want to pronounce an être conjugation in the imparfait.

  1. The je, tu, il/elle/on, and ils/elles form all have the same pronunciation. It is just the étai part that gets pronounced.

J’étais

Tu étais

Il était

Ils étaient

All of these VERBS have the same pronunciation.
