Regular re Verbs Conjugation Method
This section will show you how regular -re verbs are conjugated in the conditionnel présent.
There is a two step method that will make everything very easy for you.
In order to conjugate verbs that end with -re in the conditionnel présent one must:
- Find the stem of the verb in the futur simple. For -re verbs this is the infinitive (full verb) minus the -e.
- Add the new ending (ais, ais, ait, ions, iez, aient).
In the conjugation table above you can see the verb vendre which means to “to sell” in English.
We will take this verb and conjugate it in the “je” form using the two step method.
- vendr
The full verb of “to choose” is vendre in French. Cutting off the -e gives you vendr.
- vendrais
When we add the new ending ais, the final conjugated form will be vendrais.
So when you wish to say “I would choose” in French you get:
Je vendrais
Please note that the new endings (ais, ais, ait, ions, iez, aient) are the imparfait endings.
