Still in Spanish = Todavía

To say “still” in Spanish you will say:

  • still = todavía

This rule only counts for affirmative sentences.

Affirmative sentences are sentences that are NOT a negation.

Here are some examples:

Son las 9 de la tarde y todavía es de día.

It is 9 p.m. and still daylight.

Todavía recuerdo cuando Pluto se escapó de casa. Lo pasé fatal.

I still remember when Pluto ran away from home. I had a terrible time.

¿No has encontrado trabajo todavía?

Still haven’t found a job? (you=tú)

Todavía es muy temprano, ¿por qué no duermes un poco más?

It’s still too early, why don’t you get some more sleep?

Está lloviendo mucho todavía, vamos a esperar a que escampe.

It’s still raining a lot, let’s wait for the rain to stop.

You can put todavía before or after the verb.

Both ways are correct.

Still in Spanish = Aún

To say “still” in Spanish you will say:

  • still = aún

This is a bit more formal than todovía.

Here are some examples:

Aún recuerdo cuando nos conocimos, fue un día precioso.

I still remember when we met, it was a beautiful day.

Tenemos que ponernos de acuerdo con el color de las paredes aún.

We still have to agree on the colour of the walls.

¿Aún tienes la foto que nos hicimos en Marbella hace dos años?

Do you still have the photo we took in Marbella two years ago?

You can put aún before or after the verb.

Both ways are correct.
