You will use the Spanish conditional perfect tense to talk about actions that would have happened, but did not because something got in the way.
In English, you would use “would have + verb” for this.
Here are some examples:

I would have slept, but I wasn’t tired.

Habría vendido el coche, pero no tenía tiempo.
