Saying that you like something in Spanish is different than how you would say it in English.
Have a look at the following sentence:
Me gusta el arte.
I like art.
You begin with “me gusta” and add the thing that you like after it.
Here’s an example of liking multiple things:
Me gustan los mangos.
I like mangos.
You begin with “me gustan” and add the things that you like after it.
You will use definite articles unless you are talking about a person or a place.
Me gusta Mía.
I like Mía.
Te gusta Zaragoza.
You like Zaragoza.
If you want to ask if someone likes something, then all you have to do is change your intonation at the end of the sentence, and add a question mark at the beginning and end of the sentence.
¿Te gusta la Pascua?
Do you like Easter?
Here is how you can respond to that:
Sí, me gusta la Pascua.
Yes, I like Easter.
No, no me gusta la Pascua.
No, I don’t like Easter.
Me gusta.
I like it.
No me gusta.
I don’t like it.
To Like Doing Something = Gustar + Verb
| me gusta (I like) | infinitive |
| te gusta (you like) | infinitive |
Saying that you like doing something in Spanish has a similar construction:
Me gusta cantar.
I like to sing.
You use “me gusta” and follow it with the activity that you like doing.
This activity has to be an infinitive (full verb) and is always singular.
Me gusta nadar y correr.
I like to swim and run.
Here you like two things, yet you still use the singular form “gusta“.
If you want to ask if someone likes doing something, then all you have to do is change your intonation at the end of the sentence, and add a question mark at the beginning and end of the sentence.
