In English there are just two indefinite article: a and an.

This is used for all of the nouns as English is not a gendered language.

In French this is not the case. French is a gendered language.

French has two genders:

  1. Masculine
  2. Feminine

Masculine nouns use the French indefinite article un

un musée

a museum

Please not that if you wanted to say that there was just one (1) museum, you would also use this phrase.

Feminine nouns use the French indefinite article une

une voiture

a car

Please note that if you wanted to say that there was just one (1) car, you would also use this phrase.
