If you want to say “the day after” then you will say:

  • le lendemain = the next day

Le lendemain, les deux généraux se sont rencontrés.

The next day, the two generals met.

Demain, les deux généraux se rencontreront.

Tomorrow, the two generals will meet.

Le lendemain, il a acheté les billets d’avion.

The next day, he bought the plane tickets.

Demain, j’achèterai les billets d’avion.

Tomorrow, I will buy the plane tickets.

If you want to say “the day before” then you will say:

  • la vielle = the day before

La veille, il avait visité la Nouvelle-Zélande.

The day before, he had visited New Zealand.

Hier, il a visité la Nouvelle-Zélande.

Yesterday, he visited New Zealand.

La veille, je l’ai rencontré.

The day before, I met him.

The Day After and Before Something in French

If you want to say “the day after [something]” then you will say:

  • le lendemain de [noun] = the day after [something]

Le lendemain de Noël il a neigé.

The day after Christmas it snowed.

If you want to say “the day before [something]” then you will say:

  • la vielle de [noun] = the day before [something]

La veille de Pâques, nous sommes allés à l’église.
