How to say where you are from in Spanish = Soy de [Country/City]

In order to say where you are from you would have to say:

  • (Yo) soy de [country/city] = I am from [country/city]

In practice it looks like this:

Yo soy de Madrid.

I am from Madrid.

Soy de España.

I am from Spain.

Yo soy de Bogotá.

I am from Bogotá.

Soy de Colombia.

I am from Colombia.

Soy de Estados Unidos.

I am from the United States.

Soy de Canadá.

I am from Canada.

Soy de Alemania.

I am from Germany.

As you can see it’s very simple.

All you have to do is say “Soy de” and add your country or city after it.

Please note that you don’t have to say “yo” (I) in Spanish.

It’s fine to omit it.

If you want to ask where someone else is from, then you can say one of the following two things:

¿De dónde eres?

Where are you from? [informal]

¿De dónde es?

Where are you from? [formal]

Eres is in the informal form, and es is in the formal usted form.
