Spanish Superlatives Overview Table: The Most

el más + [adjective agreeing with the masculine singular noun]the most + [adjective] / the [adjective]-est
la más + [adjective agreeing with the feminine singular noun]the most + [adjective] /the [adjective]-est
los más + [adjective agreeing with the masculine plural noun]the most + [adjective] /the [adjective]-est
las más + [adjective agreeing with the feminine plural noun]the most + [adjective] /the [adjective]-est

Spanish Superlatives: The Most

Please have a look at the table above to see how you would say that someone or something is the most + [adjective].

As you can see they are separated based on number and gender.

The first one is masculine singular, and the second one is feminine singular.

The third one is masculine plural, and the fourth one is feminine plural.

Please have a look at the following singular examples:

Daniel es el más estudioso de su clase.

Daniel is the most diligent in his class.

Tania es la más extrovertida de mis amigas.

Tania is the most outgoing of my friends.

Please have a look at the following plural examples:

Mis padres son los más comprensivos.

My parents are the most supportive.

Tus hijas son las más respetuosas de su clase.

Your daughters are the most respectful in their class.

As you can see, the article and adjective agree in number and gender with the noun.

Those dishes are the least appetising I have ever seen.

Mi hermana y yo somos las menos tímidas de la familia.

My sister and I are the least shy in the family.

As you can see, the article and adjective agree in number and gender with the noun.

Neutral Things Use Lo

If you refer to something that is neutral (e.g. this thing, that idea etc.) then you will use the neutral article lo.

Eso es lo más raro que he escuchado en mi vida.

That’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard in my life.

Lo menos adecuado en estos momentos es dejarla sola.

The least appropriate thing to do at this time is to leave her alone.

As you can see, these things have no gender and therefore will use lo, however the adjective is in the singular masculine form.

The first option is for masculine nouns.

The second option is for feminine nouns.

Marcos ha sido uno de los más votados para presidir la asociación.

Marcos was one of the most voted for president of the association.

Picasso es uno de los pintores españoles más famosos del siglo XX.

Picasso is one of the most famous Spanish painters of the 20th century.

Mi jefe es una de las personas menos empáticas que he visto en mi vida.

My boss is one of the least empathetic people I have ever seen.

Example Sentences on Spanish Superlatives
