“Dernier(e)” in French can be used to mean “final” when it is placed BEFORE a noun.

Dans la dernière semaine de mon travail, je n’ai rien fait.
In the last [final] week of my job I didn’t do anything.
C’est la dernière semaine de l’année.
It’s the last [final] week of the year.
Cette dernière semaine a été folle.
This last [final] week’s been crazy.

“Dernier(e)” in French can be used to mean “last” or “previous” when it is placed AFTER a noun.
- dernier = last / previous
Je ne me souviens pas de ce que j’ai mangé la semaine dernière.
I can’t remember what I ate last week.
Ce que nous avons fait le mois dernier était stupide.
What we did last month was stupid.
Mon anniversaire était la semaine dernière.
My birthday was last week.
