The verb savoir means “to know”.
There are 2 important rules to know when you want to use savoir.
- Savoir is often followed by a full verb (infinitive) if you want to say that you know how to do something.
Je sais nager.
I can swim.
Vous savez parler allemand.
You can speak German.
- Savoir is followed with by a clause (ce que, ce qui, combien, où, quand, quel, que, and qui) to express knowledge of facts.
Je sais qu’ils sont les meilleurs dans ce domaine.
I know that they are the best in this field.
Tu sais que j’ai raison.
You know I’m right.
Il sait qui nous sommes.
He knows who we are.
Nous savons quel est le problème.
We know what the problem is.
Ils savent ce qui se passe.
They know what’s going on.
Pronunciation of Savoir

There is 2 important rules to take into account when we want to pronounce a savoir conjugation in the present tense.
- The je, tu, and il/elle/on form all have the same pronunciation. The s, and t are not pronounced.

- In the ils/elles form one does not pronounce the ent.
Ils savent
The last letter that is pronounced is the “v“.
