Usage of Voir

This section on voir conjugation in the present tense will show you how voir is used in French

Voir means “to see” and is an irregular verb.

There are 3 general ways that you can use voir.

  1. The most simple way to use voir is as “to see”. This usage is the most common.

Je vois le livre.

I see the book.

  1. You can also use voir to show to that something is understood.

Je vois maintenant pourquoi vous aimez cette voiture.

I now see [understand] why you like that car.

  1. Voir can also be used in a figurative way. Someone has “seen” something in terms of an experience had.

Je vois beaucoup de gens qui essaient et échouent.

I see many people that try and fail.

Pronunciation of Voir

In this section on voir conjugation in the present tense we will focus on pronunciation.

There is 1 important rule to take into account when you want to pronounce a voir conjugation in the present tense in French.

  1. The je, tu, il/elle/on, and ils/elles verb forms all have the same pronunciation. The -s, t, and -ent endings are not pronounced. It is just the “voi” part that gets pronounced.

Je vois

Tu vois

Il voit

Ils voient

These verbs are pronounced in the same exact way.

You don’t pronounce the letters in red.
